#19 - Harry the Dirty Dog by Gene Zion

Summary: Harry was a white dog with black spots who liked everything, except....taking a bath. This book follows the very messy adventures of a spunky dog and his transformation into a black dog with white spots.

Harry's family doesn't recognize him on his return from sliding down coal chutes at the railroad. Harry begs for a soapy bath with lots of scrubbing. As soon as the children started to scrub they began shouting, "Mummy! It's Harry! It's Harry!"
